Memento has been starting to show up in shops! I figured it was the perfect time to show off these two Memento Fieldstone Totes! Memento is the new fabric collection by my friend Carolyn Friedlander for Ruby Star Society!
I had received a couple of pieces of the Memento canvas early and you bet I quickly sewed these puppies up! I think I had been starved of Carolyn’s fabric for too long. It took me point two seconds to cut into these. And you know I had to order more right away, too.
Orange Memento
First up is the orange canvas in the Fieldstone Tote View B in the Regular size. I used a denim dry oilskin that I had gotten from Zipper Zoo quite a few years ago for the Accent fabric. Any dark denim (8-10 oz. range) would work great in its place though!
I wanted to show off the pattern’s option of grab handles plus shoulder straps. It’s such a fun look and makes it really versatile! Thanks so my friend and pattern tester, An, for showing me the way! This particular one uses 1”-wide for the short handles and 1.5”-wide for the longer handles, but you can do whatever combo you’d like!
For the lining, I used a fun denim/chambray stripe. It’s a little lightweight for this purpose (even with interfacing added), but I couldn’t resist.
Did I do it justice? I feel like I couldn’t quite capture the color of the orange canvas; it’s really beautiful in person. You’ll just have to trust me on this one.
Yellow Memento Fieldstone
Next up is the neon yellow Memento canvas one! This is also the Regular size of the Fieldstone Tote, but in View A.
It makes for such a perfect grab-and-go summer tote or back to school tote! Throw your stuff in and go. The handy little interior zipper pocket is perfect for those little things you want to keep secure. Plus, this view is really quite perfect for an adventurous advanced beginner. Or a more experienced bag maker who wants a quick project!
The neon Memento pairs with this Nuno to Mono heavy canvas in Beige really nicely. It makes for the perfect Accent fabric.
The lining is waterproof canvas (300d) from Sullivan’s Trim and the pocket is Tilda that I got from Stitch Supply Co. And don’t miss that cute little label on the side seam from Cotton & Ochre!

Zipper/zipper pull is available in my shop. I just got in Neon yellow zipper tape which would look amazing with Memento, so check that out, too (see below for it shown with Memento and the upcoming Lofi collection by Rashida Coleman Hale)
Webbing for handles is available in my shop, I did the rolled handle on both of these as well as the combination grab handle/shoulder strap option, instructions are included in the pattern.
